The Utah rally Watts Up by the Bay, went beyond first time expectations with a great turn out. While the weather was rainy in other parts of Utah, the rally site was bypassed during the event except for Saturday afternoon for about 45 minutes just before dinner time. This was good, the rain signaled the end of visitor portion and started the pulled pork/coleslaw feast. Entertainment was later provided by Roby Kap, a well known “blues theme musician ” from the Ogden area.
Campers included a beautiful 47 Curtis Wright pulled from Helena Mt with a 47 Studebaker pickup, and a classic 62 Streamline from Moab,Ut. We had others from Washington state, along with Boise Idaho. I think that a local 1950 Airfloat from Ogden, Utah, was the outstanding trailer that everyone wanted to see. Overall, most of the trailers were from 150 miles or so, around the rally site.
Some of the trailers pulled in for the weekend were: Boles Areo,Dodge Travco motorhome, Airstreams,GMC motor home ,Aljo, Traveleze, Security, Shasta,a couple Lo-Liners, Oasis,Dalton,Cardinal, and a Rancho El Rae. Big, medium and small units and some were pulled with matching vehicles, like a 1959 Cadillac pulling a matching pink colored Shasta; we had a good spectrum of classics represented.
Next year, because of State regulations and mosquitoes, I am planning on moving the rally about 20 miles North to Crystal Hot Springs in Honeyville Utah. The site has plenty of sites, hot pots, water slide, a pool and a covered pavilion. Small town shopping for forgotten items, is close to the site too.
I extend my thanks to all that came plus to Karen Campbell and her hubby, the SW TCT rep, and I think we all had a great time. Saw quite a few folks that are going to pull their vintage trailers out of the barn and get them into shape for the next Utah rally. Yes, we are going to do it again – in Utah!!
IT ONLY GETS BETTER,
Watt(Orbie) Mungall, your NW TCT representative.
Did this years meet not get moved to crystal?
