This is Shirley, our 1962 fiberglass KenCraft Camper! She has lots of original details:
- original wood paneling, cupboards, hardware
- original working (and remarkably clean) oven and stove
- original matching ice box
- original light fixtures
- original (and super effective) propane, non-electric start heater
- original jalousie windows (4 of them!)
- original cushions (recently dry cleaned at Alameda cleaners)
- original table and matching kitchen countertop
She has so much character, we really hate to part with her, but we've got urban farming commitments that make camping a very rare event.
We've made a few upgrades to make her a bit more comfortable during the time we've had her including:
- removing the rear of camper to redo the back interior wall and the sealant
- removing 1970s linoleum and replaced subfloor and added new vinyl flooring
- re-welding a crack in the frame
- painting cooking-oil stained wood paneling
- replacing subfloor in cabinets
- deep-cleaning the kitchen, replacing kitchen drawer liners
- replacing kitchen drain and spout
- adding kitchen backsplash
- removing potentially dangerous and creative wiring throughout
- painting heater vent cover
- deep cleaning the ice box
- patching the exterior fiberglass
- rebuilding the side benches, reinforced wheel-well covers
- added hand-sewn curtains for privacy
We'd love to tell you more about Shirley! Aren't those star details in the fiberglass beautiful?
