A thorough, shell-off renovation of this vintage Airstream was completed in 2020. Its aluminum shell and steel frame are original; all systems are new, as is the cabinetry in the style of a midcentury yacht. Its floor plan was improved to provide much more elbow room, head room, and storage space; ideal for two people, but will still sleep four when dinette table is lowered. Lots of windows, two fans, and the door-within-a-door flood the interior with light and fresh air. It is very easy to tow thanks to its light weight of about 3,800 pounds, its Reese load-leveling anti-sway hitch, and visibility through the trailer in the tow vehicle’s rearview mirror. We’ve towed this trailer through the Rocky Mountains with a 6-cylinder SUV as featured in June 2022 issue of BMW Roundel magazine. This trailer also was featured in the Jan/Feb 2024 issue of Vintage Camper Trailers magazine.
Upgrades compared to the 1964 original include AGM batteries, LED lighting inside and out, Reflectix and fiberglass insulation, quiet multistage charger/converter, 110V inverter, entertainment center with 24” TV, 35-gallon gray tanks, composting toilet, on-demand water heater, mahogany cabinetry, and modern range and fridge.
