The original Trailorboat trailers were built from 1961 to 1963 in San Rafael, California. An estimated 300 were built during this time. Fewer than 50 probably remain. The trailers are comparable in size and function to the modern teardrop trailers. They were originally fitted with a rowboat carried upside down on the roof of the trailer. If you "Google" Trailorboat, you can find info on the original manufacturer which also built other boats, and you can see images of other Trailorboat trailers with the original boats on their roofs.

This particular Trailorboat has been in my family since 1988. The boat, unfortunately, was gone when we bought the trailer. However, there is a company in Portland reproducing the trailers and boats. It may be possible to purchase just the boat from them. You can read about the company at

The trailer has been refurbished recently with three new tires (including spare), new light fixture, new electrical cable for connecting to the tow vehicle, new safety chains, new battery box and Optima maintenance free battery. Included in the storage compartment in the rear of the trailer are a Porta-potty, Coleman cook stove, tent attachment, and lots of miscellaneous camping and trailer-related items.

The trailer weighs approximately 700 pounds, and is easily towed behind nearly any modern vehicle.
