New Member Interview – Kim Rhoda

Can you tell us about how you got into the vintage trailer hobby?

In the late 70s we went cross country in a VW van. My husband and two children. Did that for a couple of months. Working odd jobs. We then traded that for a school bus. Pulled out seats, added 2 couches, 2 beds and a small dry kitchen area. Off we went again. I guess that’s where my love for camping came. The freedom, the new people and experiences 😊 Many years later I came across a true remodeled bus. Beautiful. I wanted something much smaller. That if needed down the road I could handle comfortably by myself. A friend then suggested small campers. After searching ideas I found I like the look of cute ways to redo.

What type of trailers have you owned and what do you have now? What is your dream vintage trailer?

My camper is a Shasta. Early 70s?? Some say 1400 others say 1600. So not quite sure.
At the moment she is shabby chic , hence her name Shabby Abby. I’d love to make her more hippy/ gypsy/ boho. More my style

What do you tow with?

I just bought a Chevy Silverado 1500 2006 to pull with. Hoping was a good buy🤔😊

Why did you decide to join the Tin Can Tourists?

I recently started browsing retro groups on FB. I joined a few. Yours was by far the most encouraging and enjoyable

What are your camping plans for this year?

I currently live in Chipley, Florida, have for 15 years. When I saw you guys were having an event in De Funiak, I thought. Here it is. Go for it. Take that first step 😊
