Actually, as I am the youngest daughter of one of the owners, Comet was started in 1947 in Wichita, Kansas. It was there that they were produced until 1956 when it was moved to Coffeyville, Kansas. It was in business until 1981 when the family had lost the company to economic times, i.e. high gas prices.
It was a family owned and run business all of those but the last 2 years. We were all involved eventually and were very proud of the product we produced and tried very hard to back up and help all who had them.
History
As we understand, there are only a handful of these Comets. The Comet was manufactured in Coffeyville Kansas in 1955. Models
We had 16′, 18′, 21′, 22′, 23′, 24′, 25′ and later we added the 28′. We also had park models and fifth wheels. We had begun to get into minihomes but only made around 30 or 40 of them before we were closed.
Interiors
Interiors changed over the years. Some had gauchos, which is a type of couch that could be made into a bed. There were dinettes similar to a booth by of setup that also would make into a bed. Some had an overhead bunk. Linoleum was standard on the floor but one could get carpet if they wanted in later models. Wood paneling on the walls and curtains and sheers on the windows.
