New Member Interview with Austin Turnes

Can you tell us about how you got into the vintage trailer hobby?

I fell in love with vintage campers as a kid. My dad had a 1966 pickup camper maybe a Delray or Cree with birch wood interior. My great grandmother’s cabin in Northern Michigan was a 1952 New Moon. I fell in love with the renovation and restoration of vintage RV’s. I’m in the process of starting my own business Mr. Vintage Restoration LLC

What type of trailers have you owned and what do you have now? What is your dream vintage trailer?

I have owned a number of vintage campers. A 1963 Royal, a late 1960’s early 70’s Gem pickup camper.  1966 Nomad, 1971 Airstream Sovereign. My current is a 1956 Little Gem. My dream trailer is a Spartan Manor or vintage Flexible Coach.

What do you tow with?

I’ve towed with many vehicles over the years. , a 68 Cadillac DeVille, 96 Ford F-350, 2012 expedition. Currently I use a 2011 Chrysler Town and Country for our canned ham

Do you attend rallies and what do you like the most about attending a rally?

I have not attended a true rally yet but intend to.

Why did you decide to join the Tin Can Tourists?

The Gilmore Vintage trailer show we’re extremely  friendly and welcoming.

What are your camping plans for this year?

I have no camping plans for the year ( season is over in Michigan.) I don’t camp as much as I would like to, but I’m always restoring.

Here is the link to my YouTube channel.

Here is some pics of my trailers and parts I’ve manufactured. Thanks again and have a great day!
