New Member Interview with Mary Catherine Moran

Can you tell us about how you got into the vintage trailer hobby?

I’ve been interested in vintage trailers and the rambling way of life for years. I am a 67 year old woman who has met her hippie child.  One might think I regret those lost years, lost trailers, lost miles. Oh no, timing is everything, and I have had splendid dreams over the years that have shaped my today and my going forward.

What type of trailers have you owned and what do you have now? What is your dream vintage trailer?

This 1965 Bell (The Compact 13) is my first! It’s my current and best dream vintage trailer. Every trailer I see has the potential to be my dream vintage trailer in that specific moment of time, but I don’t really lust after something I don’t have. What I have is a cutie cigar box with good bones, character, impeccable upbringings, enough space  for my comfort, and no bells and whistles. There aren’t any fancy gadgets I have to know how to use. I like “easy living”, and since I’m not technically inclined, and probably traveling mainly by myself, I want to be able to take care of things with minimum hair pulling.  As a woman traveling alone, I will be staying in campgrounds or places with facilities, so a shower isn’t a necessity.  An “outhouse” in-house is!

What do you tow with?

I have a 2018 Subaru Outback.  Before I purchased my Bell less than a month ago,  I didn’t have a vehicle capable of towing it, nor a place to store it in our Maine winters. i don’t know how to drive it yet. I am an optimist.

Do you attend rallies and what do you like the most about attending a rally?

I’m a blues music fan and intend to attend lots of music festivals. Not sure yet about rallies but I’m open to suggestions.

Why did you decide to join the Tin Can Tourists?

I have followed you for years. Your stories have inspired me and kept the fire burning.

What are your camping plans for this year?

My Blues Belle goes into storage on Tuesday. I have hired a teacher to drive me there. In the spring I’ll have him teach me the road ropes, etc.. I already have two blues festivals lined up to attend!  In the warm season I’ll keep Belle in my driveway as a guest house! I live a block from the ocean so I have a lot of guests!

  1. Wow, it’s amazing what that tiny trailer holds. Is the bathroom a wet bath?
