Can you tell us about how you got into the vintage trailer hobby?
I’ve admired the vintage trailers for many years. There is nothing comparable to the classics. Character and charm abound and you can’t help but appreciate their beauty.
What type of trailers have you owned and what do you have now? What is your dream vintage trailer?
When I was very small my family owned a cute little trailer. All I remember about its looks was that it was aqua and white. My 83-year-old mother doesn’t remember the manufacturer. I can recall camping in the state parks and riding in a toddler seat on the back of my mom’s bike. In those days they were square with hard bottoms-nothing like today. To this day I appreciate being in nature smelling the pine and s good campfire. I’ve been tent camping for many, many years. Last November my dog and I got rained out while tent camping in Juniper Springs (Ocala National Forest, Florida). I keep getting the message that life is to short! So…. Yesterday (11/20/21) my dream of owning a vintage camper was realized when I drove across two states with my miniature schnauzer, Minnie, to pick up our very first: a 1961 Garway which I have now named “Cloud Nine.” I’m like a kid at Christmas, so excited!
What do you tow with?
I’m towing with a Toyota Rav 4 and considering upgrading my hitch. My present one is good but I don’t want to put any unnecessary stress on my SUV.
Do you attend rallies and what do you like the most about attending a rally?
I have not attended any rallies, yet. So, I’m very excited to do that and meet like-minded people. If I don’t have to work that first weekend in December I’m hoping that may be my initiation. A friend asked me where the first place I plan on going. My response, “Probably a big parking lot to practice backing in.” (Kidding, not kidding, lol.)
Why did you decide to join the Tin Can Tourists?
I’ve heard good things about your group and was happy to join! I look forward to meeting as many people as I can and becoming more educated, so much to learn!
What are your camping plans for this year?
As much camping as possible!
We receive the emails from TCT, how do we become members? I would like to share our vintage story.
It’s really easy, just click on join on the main menu!
Hi Brenda,
Cool little trailer you have there.
If you’re open to a little advice, make sure your car is rated to handle the weight of your trailer. Also, it’s always a good idea to install an auxillary transmission cooler.
