New Member Interview with Dusty Moffit

Can you tell us about how you got into the vintage trailer hobby?

We had a 1956 aloha when we first got married in the early 1980’s. we really loved it!
But unfortunately, it got a rotten floor and since we didn’t realize what we had, nor could we repair it; we dismantled it and made a utility trailer out of it.
OH NOO!! I know right?!

What type of trailers have you owned and what do you have now? What is your dream vintage trailer?

Since then, we have done tent camping; and had a Colman “with wings”! But after an episode when we were in the Alvord desert area, the wind swooped off the top of the Steens mountains… we thought we were going to fly down into the desert. we packed up and left as soon as it was daylight!!! Once was enough!!

We had a couple of “modern” trailers, Layton’s. After I lived in a 22″ one for 8 months, I refused to go camping in it. That is when we got serious about getting another “silver egg!” we found one that some renovations were started. we completed them. So, I will try to attach some pics as the “Silver Lady” is now!
Please excuse messiness, winter storage ya/know.

What do you tow with?

We tow with a 2007 ford 1/2 4×4

Do you attend rallies and what do you like the most about attending a rally?

We have attended a couple of rallies in our area of Oregon and south Washington. as well as camping with our extended family.

Why did you decide to join the Tin Can Tourists?

As we are semi-retired, we wanted to find more rallies in the northwest we could attend.

What are your camping plans for this year?

So far we have reservations for:

  • May: Mt St Helen’s rally,
  • June: River bend in sweet home ??, it fills up REALLY fast so may not be able to camp but will try to do a drive through with the “Lady”.
  • July: the All American rally at Champoeg state park, just south of Newberg, in north central Willamette valley. Also, in July rally on the river near Brownsville, Oregon, between Albany and Eugene off highway I-5.
  • late September there is the ROVT rally at Powerland Heritage park, Halloween theme, we attended last year and had a good time. Here’s hoping we can get a LOT more decorations!

We are members of ROVT, Facebook
