Can you tell us about how you got into the vintage trailer hobby?
My wife and I have been teardrop trailer campers for 24 years and recently we decided that it would be nice to be able to stand up to get dressed.
What type of trailers have you owned and what do you have now? What is your dream vintage trailer?
An older friend had a vintage trailer that he decided to sell, so for us it was an opportune time to move up. Every teardrop that I have owned (5), was built by me and ranged from a really small 4X8, a pirate ship to the super custom built that we finished with. Our “new” vintage trailer is a 1965 Aristocrat Lo Liner in pristine original shape, interior and exterior.
What do you tow with?
Unfortunately our tow vehicle is a Toyota Matrix which was fine for towing a teardrop but severely undersized for the Aristocrat so a new tow vehicle is in our future plans.
Do you attend rallies and what do you like the most about attending a rally?
We attended our first vintage rally last month and we had a great time visiting with new friends and discussing outfitting the interiors and upgrading the axles.
What are your camping plans for this year?
So this winter I will be installing a new axle with electric brakes and looking for a newer tow vehicle so that we can go camping every couple weekends next summer. I am also seriously thinking of building an all wood trailer patterned after the Lo Liner.
