Johnny’s response:
This is gonna be a long one folks! We just made it home from the most amazing time in Palm Springs at the “Modernism week Vintage Trailer Show” which of course was another huge hit thanks to Brad and Susan!! This past Saturday after the show ended for the day, i just got back to the motel after a long day of showing our trailer, laughing & drinking we have our yearly awards ceremony, Dal Smilie calls me up and as i stagger up there i’m thinking what’s he up too, am i getting an award for the best hair, i don’t know he proceeds to present me this plaque from the Tin Can Tourists and i was completely floored and overwhelmed!! Words can’t describe how grateful and honored by all the love from you all Thank you Forest, Jeri, Terry, Tim, there are all so many I can’t name everyone but know that i appreciate it! I wouldn’t have been able to make what we did happen without Todd Kimmel because he is the one that lit the fire in me and we both collaborated on the first two rallies here in California so thank you Todd, and so many more contributed of course Craig Dorsey, Chuck and Toni, David Neel and look what Paul and Caroline are doing now, it’s incredible!!! But personally i feel my most important contribution which i’m most proud of is having the support of the love of my life Yipsy and of course my Funk Junk family, Edward Lum and Steven Butcher, without them none of this would have happened and that is the Monterey Trailer Park getting historic status, thanks to @danieldpaul@nixols@meripritchett@adrienebiondo, my heroes!! Thank you to everyone and check out Meri Pritchett and Phil Noyes when they babies!! Thank you everyone @tincantourists_official@thattoddlyman @terrybone @heintzdesignsvintagetrailers @loungeliner @trailerama @craigedorsey@vintagetrailersupply@vintagecampertrailers @mcooke21 @thebillwhitaker
It was a great honor to be able to present Johnny with this award. He is a tremendous ambassador for our vintage trailer tribe. He hosted the first vintage rally in the West (third overall). His efforts got LA’s Monterey Trailer Park on the Historical Register, and recognized for that on at least two national networks and the front page of the LA Times. He and his pals and also those that are part of Funky Junk Farms work in and supply Hollywoods movie industry and are always interesting. I’m glad to be able to call him a friend.
It was indeed an honor to have this presentation done as part of the Modernism Vintage Trailer Show. The trailer owners that exhibit at the show are by and large the major players in the hobby. Johnny and the Funky Junk crew have been mainstays at the show every year and form the core spirit of the show.
To say it’s an honor would be an understatement, to get all this love from our wonderful trailer family means more to me than i can ever express, TCT, promoting and preserving this truly American culture is everything to me,and i’m so glad to be part of it and know so many of you, from the bottom of my heart, i thank you all❤️
Johnny I’m so happy and proud for you! You deserve all the accolades you’ve received for being such an amazing ambassador of the trailer community.
Much love.
