My wife Beth and I have always enjoyed spending time outdoors, wanting to reconnect with nature… and it was COVID that really pushed us to get out of our house and get outside. My wife and I started discussing ideas around camping in a trailer and I mentioned that I had always loved Airstreams… especially the vintage ‘shiny’ models. As luck would have it, soon after my wife found our trailer for sale over near Ann Arbor, MI (about 2.5 hours from Grand Rapids, where we live). The next weekend I drove over to see it and ended up buying it!
Our 1966 Airstream Overlander is now our dream trailer, and we have enjoyed (well almost) the renovation process (mostly upgrades to the original interior) and taking Olive out on Northern Michigan adventures. We take our two dogs camping with us and try to unplug whenever we can from the stress of work and life. The dogs tolerate us and the camping, but they enjoy the long walks in the woods (and the beach).
So far we have only traveled around the state of Michigan, but have plans on traveling all over the U.S. to see more of our beautiful country.
Wherever we go, we get thumbs up and get stopped with questions about the trailer. She’s a shiny star in West Michigan!
We tow Olive with a 2017 Chevy Silverado 1500… so far the relationship has worked between the truck and trailer.
We just joined TCT and are excited to attend some future rallies and events. We have had two different people stop at various times and ask if we were members of TCT, and finally decided we should join and include Olive in on the fun. Look for us on Instagram… olive.the.airstream
Thanks for letting us join and look forward to meeting other TCT members in the future!
