Can you tell us about how you got into the vintage trailer hobby?
My Wife and I always planned on traveling in a Vintage RV after retirement. I am an Analog Guy and have always appreciated past technology. In 2016 we started traveling in our RV. We have visited 23 States so far and the RV Life has exceeded our expectations. We should not have waited for retirement to begin this lifestyle.
What type of trailers have you owned and what do you have now? What is your dream vintage trailer?
Several years before we retired we planned on restoring a vintage Airstream or other Classic Trailer. As retirement approached we realized that kind of project would take me too long based on my slow progress of other restoration projects. Some of those projects being my 1951 Pontiac Chieftain Straight 8, 1958 Volvo 444, and my 50’s Gas Pumps. We were eager to start the RV Dream when we discovered the 2016 Riverside White Water Retro195. It has the Shasta Canned Ham look, 50’s Dinette, white wall cokers, black and white checker floor. But down the road I picture our 1951 Chieftain towing a color matching Restored RV.
What do you tow with?
We Tow with a 2016 Tundra SR-5 with the 5.7 engine.
Do you attend rallies and what do you like the most about attending a rally?
We have never attended a Rally. Now that we have joined the Tin Can Tourists we look forward to the Rallies. A Retro always attracts attention in an RV Park. I have always been impressed by how inclusive and hospitable the Vintage Retro Owners are. I appreciate what ‘ Labor of Love ‘ went into their restorations.
Why did you decide to join the Tin Can Tourists?
I was searching the internet for a Retro RV Group that maybe we could hook up with in Quartzsite Arizona this year. After reading your news letter and seeing the restorations, I was hooked. After learning that TCT would accept the New Retro Class and TCT had a scheduled Rally at Sampson State Park in New York this September, we joined. We were scheduled to stay at Sampson anyway. It was meant to be.
What are your camping plans for this year?
This August and September, we will be traveling Route 66 and visiting family in Upstate New York. Will do some short trips to Williams Arizona and Northern Nevada also.
If it fits your schedule you should plan to attend the fall rally at the end of September in Milford. It’s a blast.
Bob,
That would be great to attend the Milford Rally! My wife’s Dad (Harold Georgia) was born in Milford. Connie was born and raised in Unadilla. Thanks for the idea!
