Interview with New Member Marsha Lynn Torbett

Can you tell us about how you got into the vintage trailer hobby?

After my husband had drag raced for 28 yrs. he decided it was time to do something new. He passed by an old friend’s house and saw a little Scotty in the driveway. That’s where it all started. We restored her and put new skin on all the way around. It was a labor of love. I did the interior decorating. She was a beauty! From then on we have camped about every month during the summer and fall.

What type of trailers have you owned and what do you have now? What is your dream vintage trailer?

Our first camper was a 1972 Scotty Sportsman

Our second camper was a 1968 Aristocrat Loliner

Third camper was a 1954 Westwood

Fourth camper 1967 Streamline Duke

What do you tow with?

We tow our campers with a Dodge truck most of the time. We also have a 1966 Cherolet station wagon.

Do you attend rallies and what do you like the most about attending a rally?

Yes we attend rallies of all our friends and we have a group of our own started in 2019. Smoky Mountain Vintage Campers. What we like most about attending rallies is meeting new friends at each one. We actually have friends from 2015 we met and are best friends. We are like family in our group and it just keeps getting better.

Why did you decide to join the Tin Can Tourists?

We decided to join TCT because we want to see other campers and go to new rallies.

What are your camping plans for this year?

Our camping plans for this year are pretty full. We have a rally in Cherokee, N.C. next week. We have two in July in N.C. One in August and one in September. We have one in October in Limestone, Tn.
