New Member Interview with Kevin Lynch

Can you tell us about how you got into the vintage trailer hobby?

My wife Morgan, daughter Payton, and I happened to be camping at PJ Hoffmaster State Park in Michigan in 2021. That weekend we unknowingly had been camping the same time as a vintage camper rally at the park. It was so cool seeing all the old vintage campers. We loved all the different styles and how everyone made them their own. We immediately got the itch to have one ourselves and began searching for one to call our own. I had made my interest of vintage campers well known to my coworkers and one of them introduced me to a friend who had one. The friend said they would be interested in selling it to upgrade theirs to a larger one. My wife and I went and checked out the camper, we fell in love. The camper was the perfect size at 12 feet, and had just recently been stripped down to the frame and rebuilt by a professional restorer. We knew that it was a perfect chance to get a vintage of our own that wouldn’t need a ton of work to make it our own. We made and offer and the rest is history.

What type of trailers have you owned and what do you have now? What is your dream vintage trailer?

We are the proud owners of a 1957 Detroiter. We have painted our canned ham white and black and named her “Patsy Cline”. We think this is our dream camper, although we love most vintages we see.

What do you tow with?
I tow our Detroiter with my Subaru Outback.

Do you attend rallies and what do you like the most about attending a rally?

The only event we have taken part of is the Hoffmaster meet up, and we love it. We have discussed adding more to our lineup.

Why did you decide to join the Tin Can Tourists?

After attending Hoffmaster we knew we had to join, we couldn’t wait to be part of the awesome vintage community. So many people were so generous with their knowledge and friendliness at the rally we wanted to be a part of the TCT.

What are your camping plans for this year?
So far we have booked a stay up at Sleeping Bear Dunes. As well as two separate stays at Hoffmaster, including this years Rally. We are still deciding where to go for the rest of the summer. We also want to try some fall camping this year.

Thank you for letting us join this awesome group!
Kevin, Morgan, Payton, and Patsy Cline
