Roadside historian and TCT Hall of Fame Member Daniel Hershberger will be presenting a special vintage camping exhibit at this year’s Motor Muster, held at The Henry Ford/Greenfield Village, June 15-16, in Dearborn, Michigan. Entitled “Family Camping Holidays,” it will offer a detailed look back at automobile camping in the 1960s. Along with artifacts from his extensive motor camping collection, which now spans half a century, 1920-1970, two additional TCT members will also be exhibiting their trailers: Dawn Bastian will be there with her 1962 Holiday House and Steve Benner will show his 1963 Holiday Rambler. The exhibit will present four different camping vignettes and will also include other period automobiles. While Dan has been doing a 1920s motor camping exhibit since 2002 at the museum’s Old Car Festival, this is his second year at the Motor Muster showing his “modern” camping gear.
I love the Henry Ford Museum! Henry’s personal RV on display there along with many vehicles that cover the birth, growth, and development of the RV Industry.
Henry Ford, Thomas Edison, and Harvey Firestone camping trips were legendary. A special PBS American Experience episode devoted the many trips taken by the “Vagabonds” . The U.P. of Michigan was one of their favorite spots.
Great Job Guys!
I picked up a 1937 Hayes Covered Wagon about 3 years ago and have been taking my time as I had no idea where to start. After snowy winters here in Montana I have taken my time. As of last week I feel I have completed the best I can and now ready to show. My question is does anyone have any ideas of how many exist? I have a 13 foot box trailer and would love more information regarding what I have. Also in need of a total gearing for tongue crank as mine just went out. Can forward pictures if needed and thanks for any information you would pass along.
The crank unit is still on frame, just need the horizontal gear.
