Herbert Mark Reeves Jr. moved to Elkart Indiana in 1952 and founded several area travel trailer companies, including Covered Wagon Travel Trailers, Easy Traveler, Bon-Aire Trailers and DeCamp Trailers. He also took part in founding the RV/Manufacture Hall of Fame.
DeCamp trailers were manufactured by DeCamp Homes Inc. 1746 Fieldhouse Avenue Elkhart, Indiana, Phone JA 36413.
There were six model floor plans available in the 1960’s.
According to the DeCamp travel trailer ad they had Birch interiors, redwood cabnets, colored appliances with harmonized interior. My 12 footer has a side gaucho sofa/sleeper on the curb side rear, flush toilet opposite. Gas furnace, three burner stove, sink, range hood and gas/electric refrigerator in turquoise with a humphrey gas light above the dinnet table in the front. Roll up canvas bunk above the dinnet table.
Large rear trunk, fully insulated, pre-finished aluminum siding, aluminum screen door, electric brakes.
Images and details from Ventana vintage trailer: Go camping in DeCamp trailer. This compact little 12 footer includes a modern zip awning and could be ready for camping with only a weekend worth of work. The DeCamp is a great little breadbox style trailer from the mid-60s. Funky exterior styling that you either love or….you think it looks like a breadbox and you really would liked canned ham. Beautiful, original turquoise sink, stove, exhaust hood and icebox. Original gold fleck laminate, tile floor and cool white and gold light fixtures. Newer sarape look cushion coverings with dark green velour bolsters on the back bed. A mix of turquoise and sarape curtains. Jalousie windows all around. Standard dinette/bed up front with a great gaucho couch/bed in the back and another sliding bed up above the gaucho. Ventana claimed this to be a 1967.
1965 DeCamp cab over, will be undergoing a full restoration in 2013. Missing toilet and has some water damage from leaking windows. Tongue had been extended for hauling with a truck that has a topper, this will be returned to original length.
