Manufacturer Information

Ioni-a-home travel trailers and campers were built in Ionia, Michigan from 1959 and 1979. The small manufacturer, located on 1200 S State Road, employed 7 people, including owners C. Wayne Van Houten and wife Ruth, his son Dave and wife Pat, the Johnson brothers and correction officers from the local prison who worked on their days off. I recently interviewed Pat about the building process. She indicated that there was not an assembly line, but rather each unit was hand crafted. You could order built to your specifications, 21 ft single or tandem axel trailer, a 17 ft trailer or a 14 ft and 7 ft wide all on a steel frame. You could also select a 2, 3, or 4-foot- high sleeper camper, 8-foot cab over pick-up coach or 10 ½ cab over pick-up coach.
