Anyone shopping around for tiny, lightweight trailers might suffer a few heart palpitations while looking at the prices of brand new campers. Greg and Lisa Patterson of Classy Chassis in Mattoon, Ill. have designed their own line of vintage-style campers that start at an unbelievable price and can be customized for any customer.
“Grace” is a custom built trailer by Classy Chassis of Illinois.
“Grace” is a custom built camper with some seriously sensuous curves. The trailer measures 10×7 feet and only weighs 1,500 lb. It comes with a basic, open floor plan and a range of exterior, floor and countertop colors. The base price for the camper is $6,900 and includes a tile floor, electric outlets and interior lighting. In addition, it can fit some taller people. The ceiling is 6 foot 5 inches high.
Additions include a dinette that converts into a bed.
Each camper can be customized and various amenities can be added on. A kitchenette with a laminate countertop, sink, refrigerator/freezer combo, cooktop, shelving and a cabinet can be added for $1,300. The cafe style benches with storage and a table can be added for another $1,000. The benches and table convert into a double bed. This price also includes shelving above the table and a closet and dresser for clothes.
The bench/table addition includes a chest of drawers and a clothes closet.
The tiny trailer can also have a bathroom and shower unit. The toilet only is $1,000 and the bathroom/shower combo is $1,200 and includes the plumbing and gray water tank.
Customers can choose their own countertops and flooring.
Luxuries like AC, a hot water heater, white wall tires and an exterior storage box can also be added. Exterior color choices include Precious Purple, Sea Foam Mint Green and the original Flamingo Pink. Other colors are available for flooring, the kitchen countertop and custom vinyl seating.
A toilet or a shower/toilet combo can also be added to the base layout.
Greg started building the new vintage-style trailers when one he made for Lisa’s antique vendor business created a buzz. So many people asked to buy it off them, so as a result they decided to start their own line. The couple also rebuilds and restores vintage Airstreams, Roadliners, Serro Scotty trailers, and other vintage campers in their backyard.
Classy Chassis also restores other vintage campers like Airstreams.
