Can you tell us about how you got into the vintage trailer hobby?
I have been camping and boating for years. My family always had larger vehicles and vessels. I am at a stage where I wanted something I could manage on my own. Last year, I bought my first vintage trailer because they are so darned cute! Notice, I said “first.” I feel like this will be a passion of mine for years to come.
What type of trailers have you owned and what do you have now? What is your dream vintage trailer?
I currently have a 1966 Trotwood. The birch interior is homey. I adore it. My daughter, however, is vocal that she prefers the Holiday Rambler we used to own. I don’t need a T.V. or a washer/dryer to camp. My dream trailer has to be a Spartan Manor. They are really elegant. Yes, I aspire to be a glamper.
What do you tow with?
I have a 2022 Toyota 4Runner. After years of dealing with RV mechanical issues, I was ready to tow.
Do you attend rallies and what do you like the most about attending a rally?
Why did you decide to join the Tin Can Tourists? (Note: I combined these questions).
I decided to Join Tin Can Tourists after visiting the 2021 Camp Dearborn event. Everyone was so friendly, ready to share a story or answer a question. It was like a family reunion. This year’s Camp Dearborn will be my first rally. I look forward to making new friends and ogling all the vintage trailers.
What are your camping plans for this year?
I am staying fairly close to my home base of Bay City. There are so many really lovely spots on Lake Huron. I have enjoyed Tawas State Park, Sleeper and Port Crescent. I boondocked on a farm that hosted a holistic fair. Of course, I am looking forward to Camp Dearborn in September.
Love Tawas one of my favorites. Camped there many years ago! Is the lighthouse still accessible to climb?
Yes! The lighthouse is open to the public, May through October.
The campground is wonderful. You can hear the waves crash from most of the sites.
